Organization Header

The Art of Warfare's (TAW) organizational structure is similar to that of many modern armies. One key difference, however, is that TAW uses a flexible structure to organize its teams. TAW has organized itself around the games it plays, so for example all members who play Battlefield 2 are all in the same division. Or all members that play World of Warcraft are in the same guild. Also, we typically separate the divisions and guilds geographically by battalion. So, for example, European members of the Battlefield 2 division will probably all be organized into one battalion while all the North American members are organized into another. If you are new, you will be assigned to a squad in the division of the game you play and in the battalion that most closely suits the times you prefer to play.

The Branches of TAW:

TAW currently supports 3 branches dedicated to different goals. The Military branch is designed to support FPS style games along with strategy and simulation titles. The MMO branch supports all of TAW’s Massively Multiplayer Online games, or games that use a dedicated, game publisher provided server. The remaining branch is called Administration. This branch is in charge of projects and initiatives that help TAW to grow, and it provides resources to ensure the success of the other branches. Your home in TAW will most likely depend on the style of game you like to play, but by no means is where you start where you will end up! Members move across branches in TAW everyday to explore new challenges and meet new people.

A Common Structure:

Although the three branches of TAW may sound very different, there are a number of structural similarities. Each main functional unit within the branch (group, division, or guild) has a series of officers that run the day-to-day operations. In addition, there are two leaders in charge of each unit (Manager/Assistant, Division Commander/Division Officer, or Guild Captain/Guild Co-Captain). Although they may have different names, these leaders have much the same job and responsibility. These two leaders of each unit, along with all of TAW’s other senior leadership, make up a group called TFO or Task Force Operations. They represent one of the two main groups that leads and guides TAW.

Central Command Office (CCO):

Above each Division, Guild, or Group, there is a commander that ensures the success of the branch. This commander is responsible for up to four Divisions, Guilds, or Groups at one time. Each of these commanders reports to a Senior Commander and an Executive Commander that lead each branch. The Executive Commanders report to the Commander-in-Chief (CIC). All of the commanders and the CIC function as a group called CCO or the Central Command Office. The members of this office functions as TAW’s stewards, they discuss and vote on new policy for TAW and responsible for the organizations overall health and welfare.

Expanded Chain of Command:

When divisions, guilds, or groups are small, they will only have a small number of officers. As they get larger they are able to add elements or units into the CoC to aid in the organization that a given game requires. Also, TAW uses both staff and field units. So for example, the staff units are the command elements responsible for all the back end administration and the overall direction and vision of the division, guild, or group. Conversely, the field units are the ones that are in action executing battle plans on the battlefield in the divisions and guilds.

With this flexibility, TAW is able to field teams in a range of sizes and provide many members with the opportunity to learn to lead teams to victory both on and off the battle field. The division, guild, or group that you are currently part of, or about to become a part of may be different than others, but this is because of our inherent flexibility allows it to be formed differently depending on the amount of members. Our chief interest is to provide a fun, challenging, and exciting gaming environment with purpose, vision, and a plan for the future. We hope you will share in this experience with us.
